Today is my first day back to work in five days. I took a little Sam-cation. A little time to focus on me and what I wanted. My love, D, asked what if he was busy during my time off? He might not have time to spend with me as he is getting ready to gear back up for work. I looked at him and said “I’m not taking this time off to spend with you.” He looked almost a bit heartbroken, but then I explained that I would love to spend time with him, but this time was for me to refresh and refocus so I could be the best version of myself. If our schedules allowed for it, I’d love to spend time with him, but otherwise he was free to spend his time as he saw fit.
Thursday was spent in nature with my happy hippy sister, Em. We enjoyed pineapple daiquiris at 11am and then went to a new plot of land to check out. It was complete with a breathtaking overlook and stream. I can’t wait to see what this place looks like when everything is green again!
After the hike, D surprised me with a nice evening stroll on the motorcycle. Our first ride of the year and it was wonderful!
Friday I left the house early to start my 1.5 hour journey to Iowa City to spend the day with my best friend Lauren. We didn’t have any plans really, just catching up and relaxing. We did a little shopping and a lot of eating terrible food and watching America’s Next Top Model. Don’t judge, it was awesome! I left Iowa City about 4:30 to head home as the local weathermen were predicting the SnowPacalypse of 2018! Anything from 2-12″ of snow, ice, rain, sleet, the works! Ha, we didn’t get shit. Way to go, weatherman.
Saturday was spent at the butcher, stockpiling cuts of meat for when D goes back to work. He works long days and rarely has any energy when he gets home aside for what he reserved to eat, poop, and go to bed. I try to make it as easy as possible to have dinner ready and the house put together for when he gets home and that usually means the use of crock pots! Sunday we were absolute bums, binge watching an entire season of Justified and only getting dressed at 5pm to go get Chinese food. It was glorious! On my final Sam-cation day, D, Em, and I went fishing! It was cold, windy, and all around crappy out, but wonderful to spend it with two of my favorite people just out in nature doing our thing.
I didn’t do any writing, reflecting, or overthinking. I lived in the moment and had an amazing time. I didn’t worry about what to make for dinner, whether or not I should wear makeup or any adulting. Well, minimal adulting, but the BARE minimum. It was glorious and I can’t wait to do another mini Sam-cation sometime soon, but for now, back to making life my bitch.
